Dog and Cat Licenses

All City of Wausau residents owning a dog or cat that is 5 months of age or older must have their pet licensed. The license year is January 1 through December 31.

Ways to be a Responsible Pet Owner:

  1. Keep up to date on pet vaccinations in case they would get loose, or interact with other animals or people
  2. Pick up your pet's waste
  3. Do not let your pet run at large outside of allowed areas.

The biggest complaints received by the police department regarding pets include animals running unattended, excessive barking and dogs doing their 'business' on other lawns. The complete city regulation on animals is found in Chapter 8 of the City of Wausau Municipal Code.
