What is the structure of your crews?
Wausau Fire has 3 crews (A, B, and C Crew) and they work rotating schedules. The crews rotate by working 48 hours on duty and then 96 hours (4 days) off duty. This allows our 3 crews to provide coverage to the City of Wausau 24 Hours a day, 365 days a year.
Why do I see a firetruck at the grocery store?
Our crew members work 48 hour shifts at one time, so they eat all their meals at the fire station. The crew will typically shop for their groceries for all their meals on the first day of their "work week." The crew needs to take the fire truck or ambulance to the grocery store so that they are prepared to respond to an emergency, should they be needed while shopping.
